Beneath The Lair

Marksburg-Braubach.jpg

Outside the imposing building that is the Lair, he sat upon the grassy slope just below its entrance. With two eyes closed, he opens his other eye and sees the lines of force that enshroud the earth, and all upon it. With his hands, he finds he can touch and feel the lines…and even influence them.

With concentration, he gradually moves the lines to rise in a series of interlaced upward spirals about the Lair, as high as the highest towers. The energy courses through his body too, but he controls it with a low chanting, and an unwavering  focus on his purpose.

With a deeper effort that makes him groan, he draws life up from the earth along the lines, which are now spinning slowly. Orchids and ferns and vines and bromeliads, and many other plants, rise up the lines and around the Lair, and begin to attach themselves to the stones and timbers in intricate living patterns.

When he is almost spent, he finally sees the work is completed, and releases the lines from his will. Taking a few long breaths, he sees his work is what he had hoped it would be, and he collapses on his back, and sleeps on the grass, drained.
